I dropped Mom at the airport yesterday at 5 a.m. We sure packed alot into the short 10-day stay so I’ll warn you now… there are lots of pictures.
Mom flew in just in time to be a free babysitter for Ray’s birthday. You heard about that already. We were also in the middle of VBS and redecorating/remodeling Arleigh and Hanan’s room. Bless her heart. I love my mother. She was forced to sleep in the playroom with the girls a couple of nights. It never phased her. VBS didn’t phase her either. She practically ran the nursery, helping with all the extra kids who showed up on Friday or walking Bria around to keep her busy. The bonus was, Arleigh and Hanan were so excited to have her at the Son Castle Faire show.
When we weren’t performing for a small audience, we were playing outside in our pajamas, having makeovers right after breakfast, and playing with the smiley dog.
I can’t forget the real reason Grandma was here… Hanan’s 7th birthday. I totally took advantage of Mom that day. Bria was buck wild. She doesn’t like being confined to her stroller but she also didn’t want to be part of the party. Mom chased her for the hour and half at Build-A-Bear even taking her to Barnes and Noble at one point. Then, when we went upstairs for lunch with 15 kids… Mom sat with Bria while she made a horrible mess with blue Hannah Montana cupcakes and ice cream. Bria decided chicken nuggets and fries were even more awesome when dipped in frosting and ice cream. Go figure… Anyway, Mom made my life so much easier. It’s just one of the many reasons I love her. Hanan deserves a birthday post all her own. So here is preview picture of the 15 kids at the party. That’s right…15 I’m a glutton for punishment and lucky to have a husband who doesn’t mind.
We hung out at the beach…alot. It’s always a treat. It’s nice for me to have another adult with me since Bria will not stay out of the water for more than a few seconds. We even spent the 4th of July at a military beach. It was so nice and not crowded at all. After a week at the beach, we had 2 burn casualties. I wish I had a picture of Ray’s back. He was too impatient to wait for me to spray him, Hanan tried her best. His back is now a nice shade of red with 2 white stripes and beautiful white polka dots on this right shoulder. Arleigh also managed a nice stripe across her back. I’m not sure what happened there, other than it was the first time she wore a 2-piece the summer.
Arleigh learned to boogie board this week. She took a couple of spills that might have scared her off for good but she’s clearly growing up. She got right back on after a little whimpering. Hanan continues to spend most of her time running from the water and freezing because she gets wet all over and then stands in the breeze. Bria calls the ocean her bubbles. She was taken out once, almost getting out of my grasp. She just stood up, turned around to face the ocean and said, “No Bubbles! Stop!” Then she ran back in until her sister dug a hole and filled in with water making her a personal bathtub. For some reason, the girls are perfectly content to build sandcastles with their Daddy. I’m not sure why they refuse to do that with me.
We spent the evening of the fourth enjoying the fireworks at Harbor Fest. As usual, they were fabulous. Also as usual, the Portsmouth police did something funny and it took us forever to get home. Arleigh and Hanan crashed in the backseat. Bria, AKA our personal firecracker, watched Shrek 2 and stayed awake until almost midnight. Bria loved the fireworks. She would point and yell at the top of her lungs “OOOOOOHHHHHHH Mama!” We all got a great giggle out of that. Then, if there was a lag she would look around and say, “Is funny!”
