It seems like I’m always saying, “I’m so busy…” I really hate that. Four kids, soccer, church, piano…. the last three days between all that and a change of command… I’m in some sort of vortex. I have to stop and tell you about the best kind of busy day we had on Monday. We were celebrating this girl.

DSCF1592Hanan tends to get the shaft in the birthday party area. A birthday smack in the middle of most holiday weekends, a moving military family with a traveling dad… It’s hard to fit it in. Plus, summer means that if we aren’t traveling, people are traveling to see us. It’s nothing to complain about, it’s just hard to fit a birthday celebration in. So when I found out Sea Life Park has a great birthday party package, it was a win win.

We loaded three vehicles and headed out on a muggy Hawaiian day. Sea Life Park is near and dear to me for many reasons. Ray likes to call it the Redneck Sea World. There aren’t as many attractions, but it’s cheaper and far less crowded. My parents went there on my dad’s furlough from Vietnam. Bria had her dolphin experience there. It’s a great little park. My new friend, Irv, is great. He’s the special events coordinator.

We started with a self guided tour of the park. Irv gave us a great itinerary to follow so we wouldn’t miss any shows.

We went in the Bird House and had some fun.

We got to feed the turtles.

Around 11, we got to meet up with Irv for a backstage tour with the dolphins. All 15 of us got to pet and feed a dolphin. Our new dolphin friend also splashed us ALOT.

It was a super experience! I think the kiddos might have even learned a thing or two over the course of the day. I decided I missed my calling and should have been a marine mammal trainer. Biology is now at the top of our favorite school subjects. It was a good day. Can you tell?

DSCF1643We were only getting started. We got a break for pizza and soda. Then after watching the dolphin show, it was back for cake and ice cream.

We still had the Sea Lion show and a special dolphin encounter for the birthday girl.

It was a long day. It was also a completely awesome day for all of us! In other news, I learned that a Orca is actually a dolphin. Who knew? Better yet… it was one of the kids that told me!
