Well, when I went to bed last night the media was saying that amazingly Trump still had a chance but surely it wouldn’t happen. My heart was in my throat over this election. I’ve read so many posts from both sides. In the end, there was more than just the next president riding on it for our little family. Who our country chose last night would likely answer many questions we had about what our immediate future would look like. Ray stayed up. I didn’t. I figured whatever was going to happen was going to happen.
As a family we’ve had mixed emotions about both candidates. My kids, especially the older two have had many questions about lots of platform issues, personality issues…the same questions we’ve all had.
In the light of the morning, I think what I’ll be telling my children this morning is that I think the results of this election aren’t as much about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump as it is a reflection of the change the people in our country want. As a family we’ve been talking about the fact that our founding fathers never wanted members of congress to have life-long terms coming to Washington D.C. to serve our country and leaving at the end of a career wealthy on the backs of the people. I hope that Trump pulls it together and can be presidential. That hasn’t happened for every president but it’s a hope and a prayer.
Yesterday a friend that was traveling shared a Bible verse that she happened to read while traveling. It’s one that I will share with your this morning.
Titus 3:3 “Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, 2 to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.”
I’ve been on the winning side. I’ve been on the losing side. This morning, I hope we all remember that we are on the same side… We are all Americans. Chin up patriots! Let’s work together to unify our nation. Let’s heal our country and choose kindness and love. If we were doing that, the election of our leaders wouldn’t have looked like this last election.
